Pierced Eyeglasses

The idea of hanging eyeglasses from a piercing or a combination of piercings or even transdermal implants is something that a lot of us have toyed with — as I was writing this, my old boss Tom Brazda reminded me that almost ten years ago we made a set of them built around a 10ga bridge piercing (with both left and right-handed threading to make it adjustable). That said, I don’t think we ever took pictures, so maybe I’m making it up because I want to steal James Sooy’s thunder. He’s who sent me this gorgeous example of a piercing-mounted set of eyeglasses:

Probably the most useful piercing I’ve ever seen.

  2. 2007.10.24 18:43

This reminds me of Molly from Neuromancer.

Pretty cool by really freaky in a way. But it is a good way of keeping your glasses from falling off. I used to wear glasses when I was younger and I was always afraid of them breaking while playing soccer and poking a hole in my nose. This fear can now be averted with these new glasses.

If thats a useful piercing… I can think of at least two or three more useful places to pierce.

Could you use magnetized ends and use a ball socket on the glasses to make it easier to switch them up..would look cleaner too, but in any case, nice work.

  20. 2007.10.24 22:53

I’d like them better if the broke away under like 5 lbs. of pressure I’d sure hate to snag one of those with a T shirt.

    2007.10.24 22:56

what happens if you collide with someone and something gets in between the glasses and exerts an outward force on them, leaving you with a huge gash over your nose.

  22. 2007.10.24 22:59

    that is fu*ing sick.

That should be an allowable piercing within the corporate culture that frowns upon piercings. Piercing job is subtle and very practical.

“Completely gay; that guy looks like a fag.”

Heh, the brilliant thing is that when mobile phones first appeared that was exactly the kind remark made about people using them. And the kind of person making those remarks will be quick to follow a fashion when it picks up.

But I’d thought of something like this recently too, but with magnets sticking to piercings to hold the glasses on. You could go a step further and have small steel plates attached to the bone under your skin at the ends of your eyebrows! My eyes are not good, and I will have to wear glasses for the rest of my life (and I don’t trust that laser surgery either), so alternate methods of hanging glasses do catch my eye (excuse the pun).

Dude! These are SO great I just love them! Finally I have a REASON to stick metal into my body! Just TOTALLY and COMPLETELY useful! Grrrreat! (hehehehe, like Tony the Tiger!)

  35. 2007.10.25 03:59

They look unique and oddly cool, I’ll admit. And you defiantly have the balls to get this done man.

It’s just the fact that I’ve snagged or had my glasses knocked off a few times in my life, and I’m worried you’ll have that same unfortunate luck however it’ll…ouch…

  36. madcap
    2007.10.25 05:10

Looks good.. but there should be some kind of easy detachable (magnets?) way for the lenses to come off.

    Magnets!

  37. Peter
    2007.10.25 05:15

This is stupid. Sure it looks cool in a still photo, but let’s see this guy turn his head quickly in a video. Unless that piecing goes through his nasal bone, I bet you money the free edge of the lenses is not stable. His lenses will vibrate every time he moves his head. Anyone with glasses (or sunglasses) can easily demonstrate this for themselves. Just fold the earpieces in and press the nasal cross bar firmly against the bridge of your nose with one finger (so the earpieces get in the way a little, but just do your best). Now turn your head quickly to the side and see how steady those lenses stay. Now wear them the normal way to see how it’s 1000x better.

Have fun with those headaches, buddy! Hope it’s worth it.

SO while I dig this, I don’t see people getting into until either the mounts upon which the glasses sit become invisible, or decorative, less utilitarian……perhaps magnets implanted and anchored into the skin????

  40. Dummy
    2007.10.25 10:42

I don’t know but even though (or because) I wear my glasses all day long, they tend to get dirty with finger prints or dust…. Cleaning pierced glasses will probably somewhat annoying.
Better not wear this piercing when you have to blow your nose…

    2007.10.25 12:36

who the f*k would have that stupid shit on your face at all times, you know, we’ve reached an age where it’s too much to just remove glasses. furthermore, could you even imagine giving your girlfriend the ol’ motor boat with that s*it going on, slicing her cleave all up.

  42. Jen
    2007.10.25 14:37

Could be dangerous if a baby got ahold of your face. Would recommend that the glasses themselves magnetically attach to the piercing instead.

Im not into piercings, but this is still a very neat concept. Also-I wear glasses everyday and never get them caught on anything, have never had anyone try to take them off my face, and in general never had them be a nuisance; so I would think these would act the same way. also-I dont think changing shirts would be too bad-people seem to do just fine with ear piercings getting hit all day

    2007.10.25 20:40

Everyone keeps saying how there going to get ripped out, or someone is going to pull them out, or just saying it’s dumb….do you all live in constant fear of having an earring pulled out? zipping up your wang in some jeans? I doubt it…your just a bunch of conformist that want to try things but are to fucking scared.

Now for the comebacks…of “I’m not scared! That is just dumb” Well, you were probably jerks/bullies in highschool and will probably continue to be jerks/bullies a.k.a. sheep/herd mentality for life.

I look forward to firing you in the future.
